20 Frugal money savings tips

Welcome to Part 2 of 20 Clever Frugal Tips to Save Even More Money ๐Ÿ™‚

You’ll find exciting and fun frugal ways to save more money with these clever tips, more than you could have ever imagined.

They are super easy for you to do from day-to-day, especially for anyone on a budget AND you get to enjoy the things you buy for much longer than you think!

Are you ready? Let’s go.

12. Save on power by line drying your washing

Save money by air drying your clothes

I usually save up two loads of washing to do and line dry on sunny days.

In 2017 I used my electric dryer only TWICE, and that was because my spouse had severe skin allergies and our washing had to be more frequent.

You may wonder if it’s worth keeping my electric dryer then. It’s basically for emergencies.

Besides, the electric dryer and clothes both last longer with less tear and wear.

Line dried clothes also tend to keep their colors better than clothes spun in an electric dryer.Check out these clotheslines that will save you lots of power and money.

13. Use until the very last drop

It’s responsible not to waste food. Think jam or peanut butter jars.

There’s always that stubborn bit that sits at the bottom and sides, that refuses to budge.

Throw in some pieces of bread and use a butter knife to scoop out the bread pieces that catch the remnant jam or peanut butter.

We usually ‘clean up’ the jar in this way before popping it into the dishwasher.

14. Reuse glass containers

Reuse glass jars

Reuse glass containers

I usually re-use these glass jars and fill them with breakfast oats for my spouse to take to work.

They are also great for storing other dry foods like nuts (or cut garlic or ginger in the fridge).

Glass jars are also easy to clean in the dishwasher ๐Ÿ™‚

Unlike plastic containers, glass containers do not carry the risk of leaching chemicals into the stored food.

Minimizing the use of plastics is also good for the environment. By reusing glass bottles, you also save money by not buying containers.

15. Make your skincare products last longer

By changing how often you use your skincare items like facial oil and moisturizer, particularly during summer.

Skincare brands would advocate that you need to use both items to keep your skin supple and soft.

I’ve recently discovered that I’m able to get away with just the moisturizer in summer, as I have combination skin.

I have been using Antipodes Divine Face Oil for several years every day.

It’s truly a quality product because it’s made from organic avocado oil and rosehip. Having suffered from bad skin conditions during my teens, I was especially cautious about trying out new skincare products.

What convinced me to give this range a try was: it’s organic and it’s been scientifically proven to boost collagen which helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

Few other skincare ranges can boast of this kind of evidence. You can find out more about Antipodes Divine Face Oil here.

I bought the products despite the fact that not a single person has ever recommended them to me, not even my mom.

As for my moisturizer, I only trust Antipodes Rejoice Light Facial Day Cream, which I apply twice a day, even at night despite it being a day cream. It really doesn’t matter as long as your skin loves it.

Now, my strategy is to only apply both products in winter when the air is very dry. Do experiment and see what works for your skin.

I’m very pleased that my facial oil is going to last much longer than I expected ๐Ÿ™‚

16. Stretch your tube of toothpaste

Have you ever struggled to get that last bit of toothpaste from the tube?

Itโ€™s near impossible to squeeze out that very last drop. It’s so easy to just chuck it into the bin, right?

Good news!

Use a pair of scissors to cut the bottom bit off and the whole length of the tube. Then secure it in cling wrap. Use your clean toothbrush to scoop out what you need and use it till it’s totally gone.

Always reseal the bag if thereโ€™s some left in the tube, or the air will dry it out.

Depending on how much is left in the tube, it generally lasts for several more days in our family of three.

17. Make your shampoo or sauces last longer

Ketchup tomato

Make zero waste your way of life.

How do you get that last bit of shampoo from the bottom of the container?

Add some water.

Give it several hard shakes. Itโ€™s good exercise too ๐Ÿ™‚

You can use the diluted shampoo by adding some undiluted shampoo to it.

This way you get to delay opening a new bottle.

Use the same frugal strategy to handle tomato, chili or other sauce that’s stuck to the bottom and sides of the bottle.

Add some water. Give it several hard shakes and voila! Out it flows.

Not using it as yet? No problem.

Store it in the fridge first. Use it when you need it later. That should clear the last drop of sauce. ?

18. Get more for the same price ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you ever noticed that new bottles of shampoo may state the same amount, but often the amounts are actually different?

How do you ensure you select that bottle of shampoo that has that extra amount?

A simple and fun test : I ask my son to close his eyes and then I put different bottles (supposedly the same amount) in his hands and he decides which is heavier.

I know itโ€™s arbitrary, but it works for me. I do this for containers where I can’t see the amount inside.

Obviously, see-through bottles with differing amounts are easier to compare. Have a look at these shampoo bottles.

The same goes for cooking oil. Take a little time to observe and you’ll notice the different levels of oil in new bottles ๐Ÿ™‚

19. Planning is crucial to saving

Plan your shopping trips to save time and gas. Instead of shopping twice a week, shop once a week.

Plan all your car trips as much as you can to save gas, which translates into more money and time for yourself.

It benefits our environment too, as less fossil fuel is used and less pollution is emitted.

20. Swap tips on where to get the best deals

Swap saving tips with others

Exchange ideas with friends and colleagues on where to get the best deals.

The advantage?

You get more recommendations and feedback from people you trust.

Not everything can be found online.

For instance, I know where to buy cheap organic veges at a certain farmer’s market, because I learned about it. This info is not online though.

For instance, look at what I got for $3.60! Two humongous organic marrows that lasted my family 2 weeks ๐Ÿ™‚
