Who is this Frugal Challenge Series for?

This series is perfect for you if you want to incorporate frugal living habits into your daily lives and get some practice doing it.

If you’re keen on frugal living, but don’t know how to start beyond reading posts after posts, then this series is for you.

When you’ve so many frugal tips at your fingertips, it can be daunting.

So, I have broken these frugal tips into small and easy steps for you to get some practice.

Frugal ‘Untruth’

Most folks think a frugal lifestyle means a ‘rice and bean’ life.

But nothing can be further from the truth.

You can live well while being frugal and make good savings at the same time.

The strategy is to start small and gradually build up your ability to be frugal, just like starting on an exercise program.

Don’t worry, these challenges are doable. They won’t take up too much of your time. Nor do they involve too much effort. In fact, you’ll enjoy them.

What will we focus on this week?

In this Week 5 of the Frugal Series Challenge, we’re going to focus on value.

What do I mean?

I want you to think of something that you usually buy out of habit and come up with a way to replace it without sacrificing a drastic drop in its quality.

Take a moment to have a think and jot a couple of items down.

For example, can you find a substitute for your usual brand of cooking oil or general cleaner?

Allow yourself an extra 5-10 minutes in the supermarket to check out different brands. They’re usually shelved higher or lower than your eye level.

Can you find an alternative brand that’s almost equal in quality, but costs less? Just get one to try it out first.

Other examples include most things you use, like your canned food, toilet rolls and other items.

Those of you who have been reading my posts would know that I highly recommend Antipodes, my number 1 organic skincare range . Learn more about Antipodes skincare range here.

It has been proven to work scientifically and I trust it 100%.

Each time I apply my Antipodes products, I’m so happy as I know their organic high-quality ingredients get me results.

They’re used exclusively for facial care only and I stick to only 3 skincare items. See picture below.

Ebates Coupons and Cash Back

While you can get cash back from your purchases using Ebates, Paribus is the perfect companion to it.

Paribus is a free online tool that tracks your purchases AFTER you’ve bought your items.

If there’s a price drop, it’ll get the refund for you from retailers that are part of their program. There’ve been many times when I’ve bought items and the next day, their prices have dropped. Grr…

But with Paribus, it takes care of this problem for you. 🙂

Paribus is so useful and saves you time and effort. You don’t have to worry about overpaying for your purchases ever again.

Sign up with Paribus here for your peace of mind. You’ll never lose out when there’s a price drop.

What’s my latest plan using this strategy?

It’s to substitute a cheaper yet safe alternative for the body lotion our family uses.

We don’t need a premium range like Antipodes in this case.

I’m looking into Sukin Body Lotion which is cost effective, safe and works well.

Generic brands may contain harmful chemicals that affect our skin adversely.

Wrap Up

This substitution strategy is a very simple way to reduce your living costs. Over time, add more items to your list. Before you know it, you’ll be saving lots of dollars.

Now that you know what to do, remember to check out at least 2-3 alternative brands and try one out. You’ll be congratulating yourself on your savings in no time at all.
