5 Easy Steps Saved Me $554 in Under An Hour

Bigger Bills and More Bills 🙁

You may well have been regularly stung by your bills.

Our house insurance bill arrived in June 2017. What? $1,009?! Wait a minute, wasn’t that $918 just last year? $91 more, a 9.9% increase!

Wouldn’t it be $1,110 next year at this absurd rate of increase? 🙁

Our near stagnant salaries and escalating costs spell trouble – big money trouble. These scary costs will keep skyrocketing till they are beyond our threshold of pain.

How would we continue to afford our current lifestyle? Even if we could work indefinitely, we would not make enough to match such increases!

Fight Back!

Sick and tired of paying through our noses, we made a decision – Fight Back.

A good start was to target the wretched home insurance bill – a big ticket item.

My hubby rang another company that is already insuring our cars, as it offers a discount for multiple-policy customers. For the same insured sum and excess, he got a quote of $763. Just like that!

An instant saving of $246 🙂

YES! What a feeling!

That was ridiculously easy – it took under 30 minutes.

Flushed with success, we shopped around for a better deal on our Internet services.

We scored again, saving $308 for a year’s Internet services by switching providers (This factored in the courier fees for the new modem sent to us, and for returning the old modem. Total postage cost was $19)

So what we did was: we took advantage of a special deal for new subscribers- 3 months’ free Internet subscription plus lower monthly fees.

Didn’t even have to search for the deal. It came in our letterbox as junk mail.

Ok, I admit it………I WAS going to trash the mail at first ……… (sheepish smile), but thank goodness I didn’t!

It was again so very easy and it took only about 20 minutes this time.

A total of $554 was saved on house insurance and Internet services 🙂

It Pays Big to Shop Around

You’ll find that it usually pays big to shop around, targeting the pricey services first.

Grrrr…..Many companies take us existing loyal customers for granted, raising fees regularly to swell their earnings.

Did this happen to you too?

Yep, this is your “reward” for staying on as a loyal customer!

But companies also want to grow their customer base, and so at times they do offer very sweet deals to poach rivals’ customers.

Take FULL advantage of such competition and look after your own pocket!

I know you’re busy juggling your career, family and life, but it sure pays to set aside some time to shop around.

After all, don’t most of us already shop around when making purchases large or small?

This is a great idea! I have cut down on many other things, but have not talked with my insurance company. I will have to give it a try! Saving money is always a great thing!

      Hi Jennifer,
I didn’t really think about my insurance bills in the past till I received the latest one last year. I had always dutifully paid the sum stated because I trusted them. I had quite a shock when I dug up the previous bills and realized that the former company had been increasing the premium quite a lot on a yearly basis. I’m happy that you’re going to save even more money now! 🙂

Love this. Always important to check to see if you could make savings by going to another company.

Hi Cristina, that’s what I’ve learned too. Each time we get the latest bill, see if we can find a better deal elsewhere.

Thanks for your tips. One thing I’ve got noticed is the fact banks along with financial institutions have in mind the spending habits of consumers and also understand that plenty of people max out their real credit cards around the trips. They wisely take advantage of that fact and commence flooding ones inbox and also snail-mail box having hundreds of no interest APR credit cards offers right after the holiday season concludes. Knowing that if you are like 98 of American open public, you’ll jump at the chance to consolidate card debt and shift balances for 0 apr interest rates credit cards.

Thanks Vernon! You have a great point there about banks having ways to encourage folks to keep using more credit cards. Not paying off in full locks them into high-interest credit card debt, which doesn’t help folks to reach financial success.
